The importance of
Microchiping and Tagging

Every owner knows that sinking feeling when realizing that their beloved pet is not home..

One minute they're there, the next they're gone. It is impossible to keep track of your pets every minute of the day and night. As a pet owner, you know what a worry the prospect of them disappearing can be. No matter how careful you are, there is always the chance that your pet will go astray. In particular, if you are always with your pet in unfamiliar surroundings, it is all too easy to become separated.

The trouble is you can’t always rely on collars to bring your pet back. They can break or become detached and owner and address details can become illegible. As a result, it may be impossible to trace ownership back to you when your pet is found. Your pet may be injured and need urgent medical treatment for which your consent is needed. Vets will do their best to provide emergency care but being able to contact you quickly at this critical moment can be crucial. Sadly, some pets that are not reunited with their owners may end up being put to sleep.

BackHomeBioTec™ is a tiny electronic microchip. It is a simple, neat and effective way to identify your pet for life. The microchip is transfused into a capsule of biocompatible polymer acrylic (PMMA) which is about the size of a grain of rice. This is injected under your pet’s skin. BackHomeBioTec™ is the first transponder to use PMMA which is a special surgical polymer successfully used in human prosthetic surgery. This material, instead of traditional glass coated chips, makes it much less likely for BackHomeBioTec™ microchips to move away from their site of implantation.

How do we find you?

The microchip carries a unique code which identifies your pet. By entering the code into a computer database, your pet can be traced back to you. The microchip does not transmit until a special scanner is passed over your pet. Most veterinary practices and welfare organisations have these scanners readily available to allow quick access to your contact details so you can be reunited with your pet.

Each pet requires a single BackHomeBioTec™ microchip. The process is simple and causes no more discomfort than other injections. Pets of all sizes from small birds, exotic pets and fish to dogs, cats and horses can be chipped. In the case of dogs and cats, the preferred location is the scruff of the neck, in the midline just above the shoulders.

BackHomeBioTec™ microchips are durable and shock proof. They will last a lifetime. By keeping your details up to date on the BackHome Database you can trust that your pets will be returned to you if they are found straying lost or stolen.
